FBI agents have seized cellphones and other electronic devices from New York City Mayor Eric Adams as part of a federal investigation into his campaign finance.
A corruption investigation is underway to determine whether and to what extent, during his campaign to be elected mayor of New York in 2021, Mr. Adams colluded with the Turkish government or Turkish citizens.
"On Monday night, the FBI approached the mayor after an incident. The chairman immediately complied with the FBI's request and provided the electronic equipment. He is not charged with any criminal offense and continues to cooperate with the investigation ," said Boyd Johnson.
The federal investigation into Adams' campaign was revealed last week when FBI agents searched the home of fundraiser Brianna Suggs, a 25-year-old intern, where they seized computers, cell phones and a cardboard envelope marked "Eric Adams."
Last week, the investigation forced the mayor to rush out of Washington, D.C., where he was to meet with White House and congressional officials to discuss the influx of immigrants to his city.
