Thousands of people sheltering in a northern Gaza hospital have been evacuated after explosions nearby, evacuees who left the area told The Associated Press.
Doctors at al Shifa hospital, Gaza's largest, were unreachable due to phone and internet outages.
The hospital had housed around 80,000 people trying to escape the heavy ground fighting and airstrikes.
It comes after a World Health Organization spokesman said the medical facility had been "bombed" and there was "intense violence" in the area on the ground.
"Israel is now starting a war in Gaza City's hospitals," Mohammad Abu Selmeyah, director of al Shifa hospital, told Reuters. It is learned that nearly 13 people were killed.
Also, the Palestinian Red Crescent has reported "intense fighting" at al-Quds Hospital, south of Gaza City.
"Now, intense clashes and occupation snipers open fire at al-Quds hospital, causing injuries among displaced people," said the aid organization, which is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
