Vladimir Putin has once again provoked the West. During a wild and slightly rambling speech at the final meeting of the Vladai Discussion Club in Sochi yesterday, Putin attacked virtually everyone.
The group's 22nd annual meeting saw Putin sitting in an armchair using more words than the Kremlin's website can publish.
In the 5,006 words that were published, before declaring “to be continued,” Putin claimed that the post-Cold War era was dominated by the West’s “temptation for absolute power,” leading to a liberal world order where others were “absolved of responsibility” and expected to conform.
And, when speaking about the sanctions imposed on Russia, Putin said: "I think it is clear to everyone present here: these attempts have completely failed. Russia has demonstrated to the world the highest degree of resilience, the ability to withstand the most powerful external pressure that could have broken not just one country, but an entire coalition of states. And in this regard, we feel a legitimate pride. Pride in Russia, in our citizens and in our Armed Forces."
He further added that "global balance cannot be built without Russia: neither economic balance, nor strategic balance, nor cultural or logistical balance. Not at all."
"I believe that those who tried to destroy all this are beginning to understand. Some, however, are still stubbornly trying to achieve their goal: to inflict, as they say, a 'strategic defeat' on Russia," Putin said.
Vlad also spoke about other global conflicts, such as the one in the Middle East between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.
Earlier this week, United States President Donald Trump announced a peace plan agreed upon by all, but the response from Hamas has yet to come.
And thinking deeply about the matter, Putin seemed to approve of Trump's plan.
"This cannot be solved by following the recipes of unilateral Western diplomacy that grossly ignores the history, traditions, identity and culture of the peoples living there. Nor does it help stabilize the situation in the Middle East in general, which, on the contrary, is rapidly deteriorating."
"We are now getting to know President Trump's initiatives in more detail. It seems to me that in this case there may still be some light at the end of the tunnel," he emphasized.
And comparing it to the invasion of Ukraine, he claimed: "The tragedy of Ukraine is also a terrible example. It is a pain for Ukrainians and Russians, for all of us."
"The reasons for the conflict in Ukraine are known to anyone who has taken the trouble to examine the background of its current, most acute phase. I will not mention them again. I am sure that everyone in this audience is aware of them and of my position on this issue, which I have articulated many times," Putin said.
The entire speech was accompanied by a jovial tone from Putin, who was in "human emoji" mode, as has become his habit in recent months. /Adapted from Daily Star/
