Dame Sarah Mullally has been appointed the new Archbishop of Canterbury, becoming the first woman to hold the highest office in the Church of England.
Mullally, 63, has served as Bishop of London for seven years. Before her ecclesiastical journey, she was a nurse and then became involved in church ministry, gradually rising through the ranks of the Church.
This appointment marks a major historical turning point, as women have only been eligible as bishops since 2014, about 20 years after they were first allowed to be ordained as priests.
The post of Archbishop of Canterbury had been vacant for almost a year, following the resignation of Justin Welby, who left amid criticism for failing to report a child abuser within the Church.
