According to the Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar and as reported by the Times of Israel, Hamas has sent Donald Trump its first remarks on the American plan for Gaza.
In fact, her remarks were conveyed to the US president via the emir of Qatar, who had a phone conversation with Trump yesterday.
The newspaper also reports, citing its sources, that US officials made it clear in Cairo that Trump's plan is the "last chance" before allowing Israel to carry out a large-scale military operation in Gaza to eliminate Hamas and other terrorist organizations there.
A source familiar with the negotiations told the Times of Israel newspaper on Thursday that Hamas is expected to respond positively to Trump's proposal, but will present a number of amendments.
The changes Hamas is seeking aim to soften some of the conditions of the proposal that Netanyahu added at the last minute, regarding Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and the disarmament of the Palestinian terror group.
The US proposal calls for Hamas to release all hostages it is holding within 72 hours and have no role in governing Gaza in the future, while the Israel Defense Forces would gradually withdraw, to be replaced by an international force.
It is unclear whether the US would be willing to discuss the amendments proposed by Hamas, as US special envoy Steve Witkoff refused to do so last time, to which the terror group responded with a "Yes, but," the Times of Israel comments.
However, it appears that Hamas is supported by the two Arab mediators, Egypt and Qatar, whose leaders have also indicated in recent days that some changes need to be made to the US proposal.
