The United States is exerting strong economic pressure on Iran while the latter refuses to negotiate a lasting peace agreement, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said.
" We are completely suffocating their economy through this blockade. They are losing $500 million a day. Kharg Island is completely full, they can't move oil in and out. As a result of this economic pressure that President Trump has put on them, they can't even pay their people ," Leavitt said.
She added that the US president is satisfied with this level of pressure, while awaiting Tehran's response.
Her statements reflect the US administration's stance on using economic measures as the main tool to force Iran into negotiations, while there is still no official response from the Iranian side.
