The Israeli army wounded two Lebanese journalists, Amal Khalil and Zainab Faraj, during an attack in the southern city of Tayri. It also temporarily prevented emergency teams from intervening, according to Lebanese state media.
According to NNA, a second Israeli airstrike in the Nabatieh area injured several more people. Lebanese Red Cross staff managed to evacuate Faraj and transport him to a hospital in Tebnine, while efforts to reach Khalil continued. Lebanon's Ministry of Health confirmed that rescue teams were having difficulty accessing the area.
Lebanese authorities claim that the Israeli army prevented the Red Cross and the Lebanese army from reaching the scene. On the other hand, the Israeli army admitted that two journalists were injured, but denied blocking the intervention of rescue teams and stated that the circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
According to the Israeli military, its forces identified two vehicles that emerged from a facility suspected of being used by Hezbollah. It added that the individuals in the vehicles approached the forces in a threatening manner, which led to an attack on one of the vehicles and the building where they were sheltering.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's Health Ministry said the journalists had sought shelter in a house after the first attack. It said two other people were killed in the attacks.
Senior Lebanese officials, including President Joseph Aoun, as well as press freedom organizations, called on Israel to allow full access for humanitarian teams.
The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that Israel is responsible for about two-thirds of journalists killed in the past two years, prompting a backlash from human rights organizations for protecting media workers in conflict zones.
Earlier this month, United Nations experts called for an independent international investigation into the killing of journalists in Lebanon, following an incident in which the Israeli army killed three journalists, including one working for a media outlet affiliated with Hezbollah.
