The US administration discussed Iran's latest proposal at a meeting of the national security team at the White House on Monday. The meeting also discussed other scenarios for possible developments in the conflict, including extending the ceasefire or resuming bombing.
According to sources, the idea of lifting the blockade and postponing talks on the Iranian nuclear program does not find support in the White House. President Donald Trump remains skeptical of the proposal presented by Tehran.
He has reiterated his red line: Iran cannot have nuclear weapons – not now, not ever. This remains a non-negotiable condition, making it impossible to accept an agreement that would allow negotiations on this issue to be postponed.
Trump also believes that the blockade is causing significant economic damage to Iran and is exerting strong pressure on it. In his statements on social networks, he has expressed that he expects Iran to clarify the internal situation of the leadership in order to determine the party with which it can negotiate.
The US president does not support the idea of sending other representatives to Islamabad for further talks and aims for the process to move towards a conclusion.
