The Trump administration has placed two former heads of the FBI and CIA under criminal investigation, although details of what exactly they are being investigated for or how far the Justice Department intends to take the investigations are unclear.
They are former CIA director John Brennan and former FBI director James Comey, whom Trump fired in his first term.
After referring to Comey and Brennan, the spokesperson said the Justice Department "does not comment on ongoing investigations."
The investigation into the two former senior officials comes after a CIA report revealed high-level corruption among senior intelligence officials who conspired to impeach President Donald Trump and remove him from office during his first term.
Their thesis, which the CIA says is a lie, was that Trump colluded with Russia to manipulate the 2016 presidential election in his favor.
The main piece of so-called evidence was a document known with great fame as the dossier.
The White House is demanding that Obama intelligence officials be "held accountable" for spreading false information about Russia's role in favor of Trump in the 2016 election.
The FBI dropped the dossier before Trump was sworn in and fired its author, Christopher Steele. But the bureau covered up these unpleasant facts under then-director James Comey and skillfully used the document as a stick to beat the president-elect.
Comey was aided and abetted by others in the intelligence community, including CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. This malign force of unelected officials conspired to tarnish Trump in what is widely considered the dirtiest trick in political history.
Recently, current CIA director John Ratcliffe declassified information and released an internal agency document on the machinations that helped fuel Russia's deception.
In a statement posted on social media, Ratcliffe declared: "the whole world can now see the truth: Brennan, Clapper, and Comey manipulated intelligence and silenced career professionals: all with the goal of impeaching Trump."
Citing previously withheld data, the CIA concluded that Brennan, in particular, pushed for the fake dossier to be included in the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) to catalyze a false narrative against Trump. Senior CIA experts on Russia objected, but were sidelined and not allowed to speak.

"He knew exactly where the dossier came from and who paid for it. He used it as the primary basis for the arrest warrants, used it as part of the non-public version of the intelligence community assessment, and used it to brief President-elect Trump so it could be leaked to the media in January 2017."
They knew the dossier was invalid, which motivated them to present it as a credible indictment against Trump. By including it in the ICA, they could reveal and disseminate both documents as cross-validation. It was a clever ruse. An illusion.
Comey's decision to steal and leak additional FBI documents triggered, as he planned, the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his protracted investigation into Trump, which hampered his presidency for two years.
On the day Mueller released his report, concluding that there was no evidence of a secret Trump-Russia conspiracy, Brennan admitted: "I don't know if I got bad information, but I think I suspected there was more than there actually was."
This is quite a Jekyll-Hyde metamorphosis for a guy who enthusiastically supported the dossier and who kept claiming that it “was consistent” with his CIA sources, in whom he “had great confidence.” That too was a fabrication, according to the newly released CIA review.
What did Comey have to say? Publicly, the master of deception hid and pleaded not guilty.
But before Congress, he was forced to admit that some of his actions would have been different if he had known then what he knows now.
Unlikely. He was involved in the collusion scheme because he despised Trump.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has vowed to hold them accountable. She told Fox News: "We're digging deep to find everything that's related to this, and I guarantee you there are some American prosecutors who are eager to see what we find, in some cases already working on their own cases to bring that accountability that's needed."
If those who unscrupulously used their immense power for political ends are not held accountable, it will happen again. And again. The only cure for lawlessness is justice. / Adapted from Pamphlet by Foxnews/
