Support for US President Donald Trump has fallen to the lowest level of his current term, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, reflecting growing concerns about his political direction and public behavior.
The six-day poll shows that only 36% of Americans approve of the way Trump is doing his job, unchanged from a month ago but significantly lower than the 47% he recorded after taking office in January 2025. The results come at a time of heightened tensions, linked to the conflict with Iran and his recent public controversies.
According to Reuters/Ipsos, 36% of respondents support US military strikes on Iran, a slight increase from the previous poll. However, only 26% of Americans believe these actions have been worth the cost, while the same number approve of the Trump administration's management of the cost of living. Rising gas prices, which have in some cases reached four dollars a gallon, have directly affected household budgets.
The poll also highlights concerns about the president's personal health. Some 51% of respondents think Trump's mental clarity has deteriorated over the past year. That perception includes 85% of Democrats, 54% of independents and 14% of Republicans. Only 26% of respondents consider him a balanced figure.
Even within the Republican Party, there is a divide: 53% of supporters see Trump as calm and stable, while 46% think the opposite. Meanwhile, only 7% of Democrats share this positive assessment.
Another important element of the survey is the comparison with the figure of Pope Leo, who enjoys a more positive perception in American public opinion. About 60% of respondents express a positive opinion of the Pope, compared to 36% for Trump. The Pope also turns out to be more appreciated than some well-known figures of the Democratic Party.
On the international front, only 16% of Americans support the idea of the US withdrawing from NATO, a scenario previously mentioned by Trump.
The poll, conducted online with 4,557 adults across the U.S. and with a margin of error of two percentage points, highlights a complex political climate in which support for the president remains limited and is accompanied by concerns about his performance and stability in office.
