"The only way is diplomacy", the strong message from Pakistan: Extend

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the United States and Iran to extend the 14-day ceasefire beyond Wednesday's deadline, stressing the importance of diplomacy in resolving the crisis.

During a meeting with the US charge d'affaires in Islamabad, Natalie Baker, Dar stated that the parties should "give dialogue and diplomacy a chance."

According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, Pakistan has consistently called for dialogue as the “only viable path” to achieving peace and stability in the region. The Pakistani diplomat also stressed the need for direct engagement between Washington and Tehran, calling for an extension of the current ceasefire.

"I urge Washington and Tehran to extend the ceasefire and pursue the diplomatic path as the only sustainable means to address the challenges and achieve lasting regional peace and stability," said Ishaq Dar.

On the other hand, US diplomat Natalie Baker conveyed "Washington's appreciation for Pakistan's constructive and positive role in promoting regional peace and facilitating dialogue."

Tensions in the region increased significantly after joint US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, to which Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks on targets in the region.

Pakistan brokered a 14-day ceasefire on April 8 and hosted talks between the parties on April 11-12. However, as the agreement's deadline approaches, uncertainty remains about its continuation.

US President Donald Trump has expressed skepticism about a possible extension, declaring it "highly unlikely" and warning that the Strait of Hormuz will remain blocked until an agreement is reached.

Diplomatic efforts for a new round of negotiations are underway, as international pressure to avoid escalation continues to mount. Pakistan's role as a mediator remains key, but the strong positions of the parties make the extension of the ceasefire uncertain.
