The leader of Sweden's far-right party, Jimmie Akesson, proposed on Saturday a ban on the construction of new mosques and the demolition of existing ones in the country.
Sweden Democrat leader Akesson, who supports Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's coalition government in Sweden, said at an event in the southeastern city of Vasteras that migrants should not have the right to build new mosques.
Akesson, concerned by anti-Israel protests and the Swedish media's support for Palestine, said the protests originated in mosques, thus suggesting their demolition.
He also demanded a ban on the construction of new mosques.
"In the long term, we must start confiscating and demolishing mosques from which anti-democratic, anti-Swedish, homophobic and anti-Semitic propaganda originates," Akesson said.
The Sweden Democrats, with Nazi roots, became the second largest party in Parliament after last year's general election.
