'Superbomb' not enough to crack Iranian mountains, Trump ready to send

The superbomb that doesn't destroy Fordow and the fear of a new "Vietnam" in the desert...

There are strong signals from Washington about a possible military confrontation with Iran – but everything remains in suspense. Donald Trump's decision to strike Iranian targets depends as much on political calculations as on military dilemmas.

According to The Guardian , one of Trump's main concerns is the effectiveness of the famous GBU-57 bomb, known as the "superbomb that breaks bunkers." The question is: is this weapon enough to destroy the Fordow nuclear complex, built deep under a mountain?

Even if B-2 bombers were to strike it several times, the outcome remains uncertain. Therefore, as with the Israeli plans, the option of special forces intervention is always in play – a maneuver that brings back dark memories of the American failure in April 1980, when the mission to free the hostages in Tehran ran into logistical disaster in the Iranian desert.

Washington's scenario: Limited strikes, not all-out war

According to insiders, the White House's preferred option is a surgical operation, with limited targets like Fordow, without engaging in a full-scale campaign. In this scenario, most of the military burden would fall on Israel - which has already partially neutralized Iranian air defense systems and reduced Hezbollah's missile capabilities, although the threat remains.

Tehran threatens Hormuz and sea routes

The ayatollahs are not backing down. On the contrary, Iran's top leaders have warned that any American intervention will bring grave consequences. From closing the Strait of Hormuz with naval mines, to attacks on American bases in the region, to sabotage of maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf or the Red Sea with the help of the Houthi rebels.

A shadow of terror on the horizon

Intelligence agencies warn of possible attacks by small Iranian cells with drones and missiles, in places where American troops or embassies are located. The risk of a wave of terror remains real and present, especially in this heated geopolitical context. / Adapted from “Corriere Della Sera”
