Former US President Donald Trump, during a statement to reporters before leaving the White House, reiterated his harsh statements about Pope Leo.
Asked about the Pope's stance, Trump stressed that it was "very important for the Pope to understand" the situation regarding Iran. He claimed that Iran had killed 42,000 unarmed people, without providing additional details on the source of that figure.
"It's very important for the Pope to understand... Iran killed 42,000 people who were completely unarmed ," Trump said.
Trump reiterated his well-known stance that Iran should not have nuclear weapons, presenting it as a key international security issue. He added that he expects the Pope to be clear about this risk as well.
When asked about the possibility of a meeting with the Pope to address their differences, Trump responded that he does not consider such a meeting necessary.
"I don't think it's necessary," Trump said.
His statements come at a time when positions on Iran and the nuclear issue remain an important topic in global politics.
