The suspected perpetrator who attacked a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, forcing President Donald Trump to evacuate, has been identified as Cole Thomas Allen, three sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
The 31-year-old from California studied engineering and is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology, also known as Caltech, writes CNN.
The suspect is believed to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton Hotel where the incident occurred, and police have “secured a room” to determine what is inside, according to Interim Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Jeffery Carroll.
Carroll also said the suspect was armed with a shotgun, a pistol and several knives and “exchanged gunfire” with law enforcement officers when he was stopped and taken into custody.

Authorities said the suspect was not shot, but was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. A wounded Secret Service agent was also taken to the hospital, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said.
The suspect will appear in court on Monday, where he will face two charges: use of a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said.
The DC police chief said the suspect appeared to be "a lone actor," while Trump noted that his security team was unaware of any threats before Saturday night's dinner.
FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators will "carefully" review the suspect's background. The suspect worked as a teacher and video game developer from Southern California, according to public records.
