Tehran responds to Trump: We will not approve any deal with the US without
Tehran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Majer Ghalibaf, and Trump

Iran will not approve any agreement with Washington without guarantees for its rights.

This was warned today by Tehran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Majer Ghalibaf.

"We will not approve any agreement until we are sure that the rights of the Iranian people are fully guaranteed," the head of Iran's negotiating team with Washington said in a video broadcast by Iranian media, The Guardian reports.

"There is no trust in the words and promises of the enemy. Our only criterion is to achieve tangible results before fulfilling our commitments in return," he explained during his swearing-in as speaker of the Iranian parliament following his re-election to the post.

Ghalibaf's statement is particularly significant as US President Donald Trump is reportedly hardening his stance towards Tehran, demanding additional concessions beyond those included in the draft memorandum that the two countries' negotiating teams are said to have reached.

Trump is seeking more specific commitments from Iran regarding its nuclear program, specifically a clear framework for managing its stockpile of enriched uranium, how the material will be removed or brought under control, and a specific timeline. According to the website Axios, Trump is seeking more rigor in Washington's stance, particularly on the issue of Tehran's nuclear fuel.

Iran considers the lifting of US sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian assets as fundamental rights that must be guaranteed in any deal with the US. Iran has imposed tight control over the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war. In response, the US has imposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports and coastlines since April 13.
