The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, expressed confidence that the West will soon come up with a text for the statute for the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, for which he said that Serbia will not even be asked.
The Serbian leader added that his country is "doing its best to maintain peace and we are always ready for compromises".
" I expect many difficult situations for us in the coming period and I am almost sure that the Westerners will come up with a genius idea to offer us the text of the charter, about which they will not ask us at all. Therefore, I expect many, many problems. But, this is not something new. There is a lot of nervousness about the situation in Ukraine and some think that we should pay the price for not meeting their expectations ," said Vučić in Valeve, Serbia.
For the implementation of the Agreement for the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo, there are currently four draft-statutes and draft-visions: Draft-statute of the Management Team, draft-vision of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, draft-statute of the Prime Minister of Albania , Edi Ramës, and the draft statute for the Association drawn up by the German organization Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES).
On this issue, Kosovo and Serbia have reached two agreements: in 2013 and 2015.
The Constitutional Court found that the 2015 agreement is not in full harmony with the highest legal act of the state, but that it can be harmonized through laws.
Serbia demands that Kosovo implement the agreements for the Association, but the current Government of Kosovo, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has declared against an ethnic association.
Vucic spoke about the Association's statute, while commenting on the recent incident in North Mitrovica, when on June 26 the building of this municipality was attacked with an explosive device.
The Kosovo Police told Radio Free Europe that in consultation with the competent prosecutor, the case of "committing a terrorist act" was initiated.
Vucic repeated that "everyone in the world knows who is trying to escalate the situation and who wants war".
" Serbia does not want this ", he emphasized.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, called on Serbia not to incite violence, after the hand grenade attack on the municipal facility of North Mitrovica.
Kurti mentioned the risk of losing lives as a result of such actions.
Tensions in the north of Kosovo have increased since May 26, when the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - entered the municipal buildings of Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.
The Serbian population, which has boycotted the elections, has opposed the action of the mayors and has continuously held protests in front of the buildings.
The international community has asked Kosovo and Serbia to urgently reduce tensions and for Prishtina to organize new elections./ REL
