Yevgeny Prigozhin has landed in Belarus, and is staying in one of the capital's few hotels without windows, a US official says.
Mercenary leader Wagner was ordered to flee to Belarus as part of a deal to end his group's armed uprising on Saturday.
He was last seen in public, leaving the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don after withdrawing his troops, and since then there has been only speculation about his whereabouts.
US Senate Intelligence Chairman Mark Warner told NBC News that he is in Minsk and believes he is in a windowless hotel.
"I understand that he says he is in Minsk and in fact he is. And mind you, although it is only reported that he is in one of the only hotels in Minsk that does not have a window," he said.
While the head of Russia's National Guard, Viktor Zolotov, says he does not rule out Western involvement in the rebellion launched in Russia by Wagner's boss over the weekend.
"The rebellion was inspired by the West and overwhelmed Prigozhin's ambitions," he said.
He added that the Russian national guard also had information about the preparation of Wagner's revolt from "Prigozhin's circle".
Earlier, US President Joe Biden and other European leaders ruled out involvement in the Wagner uprising and said it was Russia's "internal matter".
