The US Navy's newest and most modern aircraft carrier, the Gerald R. Ford, is visiting Croatia with a crew of 4,600 sailors. It is docked in front of the port of Split and is the third US Navy ship to visit Split in the last 18 months.
"Our presence here shows our determination and commitment to progress towards peace and stability in the region. We welcome this opportunity for our teams to enjoy the beautiful country and experience Croatian culture, but also to build a strong relationship between the United States and Croatia, based on shared values," said Admiral Erik J. Eslich, Commander of the aircraft carrier battle group.
The newest generation of this device has two nuclear reactors and four shafts. It is 332 meters long, 40 meters wide, while the track section is 78 meters wide. It can sail for 20 years without fuel and its construction cost 12.8 billion dollars.

It is named after the 38th president of the United States, Gerald R. Ford, who served in the period 1974-1977. The ship departed from Norfolk, United States in May, and first reached Norwegian waters, before reaching the Mediterranean.

It is not known how long the ship will stay in Croatian waters, but Croatian army officials and other civilian officials are expected to visit there. In addition to American ships, Croatian ports have also recently been visited by ships from other NATO partner countries, including those of Britain, France and Spain.
