The Australian court has sentenced a 34-year-old Albanian to prison, after he was radicalized and fought for terrorist groups in Syria. Australian media reports that in addition, he has been mocked online about beheading prisoners.
According to the decision of the court, the Albanian Agim Ajazi was sentenced to 8 years and 2 months of imprisonment. Ajazi was found guilty of 3 charges in the Supreme Court in Brisbane last year. They included supporting terrorism and participating in hostile activities in a foreign country. Meanwhile, a month ago, the court found that the 34-year-old, who lived on the Gold Coast, traveled to Turkey in 2013. From 2014, he was regular crossings to the Syrian border to fight as a soldier in "extremely fierce" battles.
Ayazi did this over a two-year period with the aim of forcibly overthrowing the Syrian government and establishing a state governed under Sharia law.
Although they had the same goal, it was acknowledged that Ajazi was not a member of any specific terrorist group. His lawyer argued that he only once associated with the Jabhat al-Nusra group. During this time, Ajazi made regular posts on social networks about beheading prisoners captured during battles. However, at no time was it claimed that he himself carried out any execution.
Ajazi also encouraged Americans to enter Russian churches and start cutting heads.
However, the Albanian has started to regret it. He described his behavior at this time as attention-seeking and immature, and states that terrorist organizations are hypocritical and brainwash young people.
