The rift between the US and the EU is growing ever wider. Following statements by the US president that the US will withdraw its troops from countries like Germany, Spain and Italy, another blow has come in the economic aspect.
A few minutes ago, Trump, through a post on the "TruthSocial" platform, declared that he will apply tariffs of 25 percent on cars and trucks exported from the EU to the US. Trump said that EU countries have violated the agreement reached months ago and that is why he has decided to take this decision.
Trump further added that if Europeans want to sell their products in the US, they will have to open factories in America.
“I am pleased to announce that, based on the fact that the European Union is not fully complying with our fully negotiated Trade Agreement, next week I will be increasing the tariffs imposed on the European Union on cars and trucks entering the United States. The tariff will increase to 25%. It is fully understood and agreed that if they produce cars and trucks in U.S. factories, there will be NO TARIFFS. Many new car and truck factories are currently under construction, with over $100 billion invested, A RECORD in the history of car and truck manufacturing. These factories, staffed by American workers, will be opening soon. There has never been anything like what is happening in America today! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP ,” Trump wrote.
