Boeing responds to India plane crash

A serious air incident has shaken India today, after a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner passenger plane, with 242 people on board, fell from a height just seconds after takeoff.

According to preliminary data, there were 2 pilots and 10 crew members on board, while 230 were passengers, including 169 Indian citizens, 53 British, 1 Canadian and 7 Portuguese.

The plane issued an emergency signal immediately after takeoff, but then lost all contact with the control center.

According to Flight Radar, the signal was lost when the aircraft was at an altitude of about 190 meters. The plane reportedly crashed into a residential area near the airport, over a doctors' dormitory, and burst into flames.

Boeing has officially reacted to the news of the crash of its plane. In a statement to the media, the American company states that: "We are aware of the initial reports and are working to gather more information."

Boeing has not provided further details about the possible causes of the accident or the condition of the plane before the flight. Nor have local authorities yet provided an official tally of victims or survivors.

According to the BBC, this Air India accident is the first time a Boeing 787 aircraft has crashed in this way.

The model was launched 14 years ago and just six weeks ago, the aircraft manufacturer celebrated the fact that the model, also known as the Dreamliner, has reached the milestone of transporting 1 billion passengers.

To mark the occasion, the company said its global 787 fleet of more than 1,175 aircraft has flown nearly 5 million flights, covering more than 30 million flight hours.

The accident is a major blow to the company, which has struggled to overcome a series of problems, including fatal accidents, with its 737 program.

It will be another test for CEO Kelly Ortberg, who is about to mark his first anniversary in the job.

He was brought in to help the American aircraft manufacturer solve a series of problems that were raising questions about its future.
