The US government has announced that it is ready to send a team to help recover the bodies of the Air India plane crash. The US said it is ready to help if Indian officials request it.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the National Transportation Safety Board would be the lead U.S. government representative and the FAA would provide technical support. The NTSB regularly helps determine the causes of about 450 international accidents each year.
No one has survived the crash of a plane in India, which was traveling to London. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport.
Authorities confirm that several people have lost their lives in the medical dormitory where the plane crashed with 242 people on board.
According to sources at the scene, the plane hit the building with great force just minutes after takeoff, causing an explosion and a large fire in the dormitory premises.
Search and rescue teams have found the bodies of several victims inside the building, while searches continue among the rubble for others trapped.
Authorities have not yet given a full toll of the victims on board the plane, but emergency sources report "many dead." Investigations are ongoing, while local officials have declared a day of national mourning in the state of Gujarat.
