
A ship has sunk in Kalamata, Greece, where 59 people have so far been reported dead in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, while around 104 clandestine migrants have been rescued.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the candidate for prime minister in the June 25 elections, has stopped the electoral campaign and is going to Kalamata. It is reported that so far the dead bodies of 59 illegal immigrants have been pulled out of the water.
Also, the country's president, Katerina Saqelaropul, is going to the scene to see the situation closely.
The ship was headed from Libya to Italy and sank in the international waters that separate Greece from Italy, 47 miles south of the Peloponnese peninsula in its southernmost area, Pylos.
The search for others continues, while the exact number of people who were on the sunken ship is unknown.
We recall that a 45-year-old diver lost his life while trying to retrieve the dead bodies of immigrants who were trapped in the sunken trawler.
