United States President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 100% tariffs on all products imported from any country that imposes a digital services tax on American companies.
In a post on social media, Trump stated that this tariff will take precedence over any trade agreement the United States has with the respective country.
"Many European countries have discussed imposing a digital services tax on American companies. Some of them are close to implementing it.
Please consider this statement as official notice: any country that imposes such a tax will immediately face a 100% customs tariff on all goods it exports to the United States of America.
"This tariff will prevail over any trade agreement with that country, regardless of whether the agreement is in effect, signed, or not. Furthermore, the 100% tariff will be imposed immediately if these countries move forward with this tax. Thank you for your attention to this matter," Trump wrote in his post.
