
The US State Department has urged American citizens to immediately leave more than a dozen Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, due to attacks launched by US and Israeli forces against the Iranian regime.
Mora Namdar, assistant secretary of state for consular affairs, recommended that Americans leave these countries using available commercial transportation "due to security risks."
The warning applies to Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
The US embassy in Amman, Jordan, said its staff had left the country "due to a threat".
Washington's recommendation came after the Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed that the US embassy in Riyadh was attacked by two drones, causing a small fire and minor material damage to the building, with no casualties reported.
The US diplomatic mission in the Kingdom issued a security alert ordering its staff and recommending that American citizens shelter in place in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran, in addition to restricting non-essential travel to military installations in the region.
"The U.S. Mission to Saudi Arabia continues to monitor the regional situation," the statement said, urging Americans to maintain a personal security plan, avoid protests and large gatherings, and follow the instructions of local authorities.
