United States President Donald Trump said the war with Iran could be nearing an end, but warned Tehran not to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes.
In a phone interview with CBS News, Trump said the US could take strong action if Iran tries to obstruct movement in this strategic maritime corridor.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key point for global energy trade, with about 20 percent of the world's oil supply passing through it. However, according to recent reports, commercial shipping in the area has almost ground to a halt due to tensions and the risk of attacks.
Trump said the United States "can do a lot" to ensure the security of this passage and warned Iran of severe consequences if it tries to block it.
" They have used almost all the weapons they had and they better not make any wrong move, because this could be the end of that country ," he said.
However, the US president stated that the strait is currently open and that some ships have continued to enter it. He also added that the US administration is considering the possibility of taking control of this sea route if the situation worsens.
Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz are considered one of the most critical factors in the conflict, as any blockage of it could have major consequences for global energy markets and the international economy.
