The US president was referring to the May 2025 video, in which Brigitte Macron appeared to be shooting the French president shortly before they disembarked from the presidential plane in Vietnam.
US President Donald Trump has again criticized Emmanuel Macron for his position regarding developments in the conflict with Iran, during an event held on Thursday at the White House, shortly before a speech in which he declared that the war could last several more weeks.
In his speech, Trump spoke about NATO allies and said that the United States did not need them, but added that he had nevertheless sought their involvement.
He then addressed the French president directly with personal comments, mentioning his family relationship and an episode that had been made public earlier. This statement caused laughter among those present in the hall.
The reference was to a video released in May 2025, where Brigitte Macron was seen lightly hitting the French president shortly before disembarking from the presidential plane in Vietnam.
Trump's statements come at a time when the positions of allied countries on the conflict with Iran continue to remain different.
Trump mocks Macron again:

After this report, Trump continued by saying: “I said, ‘Emmanuel, we would like to have help in the Persian Gulf, even though we have a record of destroying bad guys and ballistic missiles. We would like to have help. If you can, could you send ships right away?’ He said, ‘No no no, we can’t do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won,’ and I said, ‘No no, I don’t need it after the war is won, Emmanuel.’”
"That's how I learned about NATO. NATO won't be there if we ever have a big NATO, you know what I mean by big," Mr. Trump said, without elaborating.
