The Turkish Foreign Ministry has called on Iran and Israel to completely cease hostilities, after US President Donald Trump announced a bilateral ceasefire.
"We welcome the news that Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire ," the ministry wrote, calling on both sides to "fully adhere to it" and calling for dialogue and diplomatic channels to remain open.
Turkish President Erdogan earlier stressed that the region cannot bear the burden of an Israel-Iran war and called for diplomacy to be given a chance to prevent further escalation.
He also said that a permanent ceasefire should be established in Gaza as soon as possible, Israeli attacks should stop and humanitarian aid should be allowed without interruption.
"Global actors must take effective steps to end this madness, otherwise it will not only be our region, but the whole world that will pay the price," Erdogan said of the conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, in NATO, Turkey supports fair burden-sharing and strengthening European security, he noted.
