The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, said he will "take revenge" after the final decision that sentences him to one year in prison and bans him from political activity for 6 years.
"The people of Republika Srpska must remain calm and mobilize with our institutions. No one can overturn the will of the citizens. Republika Srpska has the strength to fight back through political steps, because if it does not act, it is threatened by greater dangers ," Dodik wrote in a post on X on August 3.
Dodik has not specified what political actions will be taken.
On August 1, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Dodik to one year in prison and banned him from political activity for 6 years, after he failed to comply with the decisions of the High Representative.
Dodik was found guilty of signing a decree promulgating laws that the High Representative, Christian Schmidt, had previously annulled.
Through these laws, legislative bodies in Republika Srpska have attempted to prevent the implementation of decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the High Representative in the Bosnian Serb entity.
Following the August 1st ruling, Dodik said he does not accept the criminal charge for "disrespecting the decisions of the High Representative", for which he was convicted by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He has made public the new decisions of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, which, according to him, define a "concrete plan for the way forward", without specifying what decisions are in question.
"All our decisions will be political, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has disqualified itself as a legal body," Dodik said.
He has said that there will be no early elections in Republika Srpska.
Dodik's lawyer, Goran Bubiq, said he will appeal the decision to the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We will request a temporary measure to suspend the decision until the decision is made by the Constitutional Court," said Bubić, noting that these are necessary steps that must be taken until the case reaches the European Court of Human Rights.
After being notified of the final decision, Dodik must accept a summons for the enforcement of the prison sentence.
Immediately after the call, the decision of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina follows, which must make a decision to terminate his mandate as president of Republika Srpska.
According to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the mandate of an elected official ends “on the date when the court decision, sentencing him to imprisonment of six months or more, becomes final.”/ REL
