The footage has been released when Vangjelis Zabunis, 44, a well-known member of the Greek mafia, was shot dead last evening on "Ilia Iliu" street in the center of Athens.
The video shows the 44-year-old entering the parked car. Seconds later, the perpetrators' car approaches. The latter get out and shoot dozens of times at the car. Merciless in his act, one of the executed opens the car door and continues to shoot again, to be more than sure that the victim is dead.
Despite the fact that the victim was driving an armored BMW, this was not an obstacle for the executioners, who used Kalashnikov blind-piercing bullets that penetrated the armored glass and left the Greek capo gang dead on the spot.
According to Greek media, 97 nails have been found at the scene so far. It is suspected that the executioners used 3 different weapons, at least 2 Kalashnikovs (2 were found in the burned car of the perpetrators) and a 9mm pistol.
But it is suspected that the weapons could be even more and the perpetrators had support from a vehicle and a motorcycle. Film footage from the area where the victim was found murdered, as well as the businesses where the perpetrators passed, are being examined.
Zabunis, an important exponent of the underworld in Greece, was executed at midnight on "Ilia Iliu" street, in the center of Athens. A few minutes after the execution at the exit of Athens in the place called Hajdari, the perpetrators' vehicle was also found, an off-roader which turns out to be rented.
2 Kalashnikovs and 1 pistol were also found inside the car, weapons used during the attack on Zabunis. 4 years ago, the 44-year-old escaped an assassination attempt where he received serious injuries, but luckily the perpetrator's weapon was jammed and he could not deliver the final blow.
It seems that this time the perpetrators were determined not to make a mistake and used at least 3 weapons. Zubunis was arrested several times and was on the top list of suspects for several attacks on other gangs. He was also involved in fuel and alcohol smuggling, as well as fine-imposing.
The victim was accused of being the executioner of the gang of Vlastos brothers, executed one in prison and the other in a similar assassination. Zabunis tried to assassinate the judge who was trying the Vlastos brothers in 2012, but the incident was avoided thanks to the intervention of the police.
