German Bundestag member Josip Juratovic says the European Union should review membership negotiations with Serbia after irregularities were reported in last month's elections.
Juratovic, among other things, emphasized that they can no longer tolerate the increasingly strong autocratic approach of the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic.
"In our foreign policy, we cannot always choose the partners with whom we will negotiate. But in this situation, in which the leader of the campaign ignores the irregularities in the election and thus openly violates the democratic rules, we can no longer tolerate this and I am not alone in the opinion that further pre-accession negotiations between Serbia and the EU should be "raised" until the fundamental principles of the democratic value system are respected.
"Unfortunately, the international community cannot directly create the politics of Serbia in the democratic world to which we belong and which Serbia supposedly aims for, only the people can do this through democratic processes, including a fair election contest," said Juratovic . in an interview for the Montenegrin medium "Pobjeda".
The deputy pointed out that those who want to cooperate must respect democratic rules.
"What we can influence is that those who want to cooperate with us must respect the democratic rules if they want to be our partners. And we will continue to do so in the future. These elections are the last straw for our tolerance of the increasingly strong autocratic approach of Aleksandar Vucic and his followers," said German Bundestag member Josip Juratovic.
