Prime Minister Edi Rama has given an interview to CNN TÜRK , where he spoke about the NATO Summit, Albania-Turkey relations and developments in the Balkans. During the interview, he repeatedly expressed appreciation for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, describing their relationship as "brotherly" and highlighting his role in the region. Rama seems to have forgotten his relations with Nertanyahu, as until yesterday he was praising the latter. Turkish media have massacred him for his rapprochement with Israel, but Rama is playing with two goals.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama gave an exclusive interview to CNN TÜRK ahead of his visit to Turkey. He commented on the NATO Summit, Albania-Turkey relations, the Balkan peace process, cooperation in the defense industry and tourism projects, saying that his relationship with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is "brotherly."
The Balkans, which is located at the meeting point of Europe, the Middle East, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea region, is considered one of the regions of strategic importance for Turkey. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, whose country is one of the important actors for maintaining lasting peace and stability in the region, was invited to CNN TÜRK after his visit to Turkey.
Commenting on the historic NATO Summit, hosted by Turkey, Edi Rama said that it is difficult to single out a single decision as the most important.
Rama stressed that the summit confirmed once again that NATO's European arm is building a strong military structure and is determined to act together in the face of threats.
" I don't think there was a single more important decision. However, overall, the summit was a confirmation that the European arm of NATO is building a very strong military structure and is determined to respond to threats and challenges by modernizing its armies and joining forces ," he said.
Maximum rating for Turkey's organization of the NATO Summit
The Albanian Prime Minister also commented on Turkey's organization of the NATO Summit. He said that the organization was successful and that Turkey's hospitality and organizational strength left an impression.
Asked what grade he would give Turkey for the organization, Rama said: " Everyone was extremely impressed by the organization, by all the elements of hospitality and by the strength that was demonstrated through them ."
"Agreement had been reached on almost everything before the summit"
Duke iu përgjigjur pyetjes nëse ishte e vështirë të arrihej konsensus për deklaratën përfundimtare të Samitit të NATO-s, Edi Rama tha se pjesa më e vështirë kishte qenë faza përgatitore.
Ai theksoi se gjatë samitit nuk pati mosmarrëveshje të mëdha mes liderëve dhe se "kur mbërritëm këtu, gjithçka ishte dakordësuar".
Në deklaratën e tij, Rama u shpreh: "Ndoshta faza përgatitore ka qenë më e ndërlikuar, por kur mbërritëm këtu, të gjithë ishin në të njëjtën linjë. Nuk pati shumë gjëra që mund t'i quanim debat".
Rama flet për marrëdhënien Erdogan–Trump
Edi Rama komentoi edhe rolin e presidentit turk Recep Tayyip Erdogan dhe presidentit amerikan Donald Trump gjatë Samitit të NATO-s. Ai tha se mes dy liderëve ekziston një lidhje e veçantë dhe se Trump e ka shprehur në disa raste respektin e tij për Erdoganin.
Rama u shpreh: "Është shumë e qartë se mes tyre ekziston një lidhje shumë e veçantë. Presidenti Trump e ka theksuar më shumë se një herë respektin e tij për presidentin Erdogan dhe ka folur për të me fjalë jashtëzakonisht të mira".
A do të presë Shqipëria Samitin e ardhshëm të NATO-s?
Edi Rama u pyet edhe për pretendimet se Shqipëria do të jetë mikpritëse e samitit të ardhshëm të NATO-s. Duke kujtuar se në deklaratën përfundimtare të samitit të vitit të kaluar në Hagë përmendeshin Turqia dhe Shqipëria si vende të mundshme për samitet e ardhshme, Rama tha se çështja është e qartë.
Ai deklaroi se samiti i ardhshëm i NATO-s do të zhvillohet në Shqipëri dhe se arsyeja pse kjo nuk u përfshi në deklaratën përfundimtare lidhet me diskutimet që vazhdojnë për kalendarin.
"Edhe Sekretari i Përgjithshëm tha në konferencën për shtyp se samiti i ardhshëm do të mbahet në Shqipëri. Arsyeja e vetme pse kjo nuk u përfshi në deklaratë është se palët ende po diskutojnë për kalendarin", tha ai.
Shpjegimi i Ramës për atletet e bardha
Edi Rama, i cili tërhoqi vëmendjen në samit me atletet e bardha, iu përgjigj me humor edhe pyetjes për stilin e tij.
Rama tha se i kishin thënë se edhe në Turqi shumë njerëz preferojnë atletet dhe për këtë arsye kishte zgjedhur këpucët sportive në vend të atyre klasike.
"Në përgjithësi, atletet janë shumë, shumë komode. Këpucët klasike janë shumë më pak komode. Por ndonjëherë ke nevojë për të dyja", shtoi ai.
Mesazh për marrëdhëniet Shqipëri–Turqi dhe industrinë e mbrojtjes
Duke komentuar partneritetin strategjik mes Turqisë dhe Shqipërisë, Edi Rama tha se bashkëpunimi ekonomik dhe ushtarak mund të zhvillohet edhe më tej.
Ai theksoi se vëllimi i shkëmbimeve tregtare duhet të rritet dhe u shpreh se Shqipëria është e hapur për bashkëpunim me kompanitë turke në fushën e industrisë së mbrojtjes.
" In the military field we have very good cooperation. Of course, we would welcome more Turkish companies to come and develop their products together with us ," he said.
Message for the Balkan Peace Platform
Edi Rama also spoke about the stability process in the Balkans, saying that Turkey's role in the region is important. Commenting on the Balkan Peace Platform, initiated by Turkey last year, Rama said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is closely engaged with the region.
He added that the decision to convene leaders within the platform depends on President Erdogan.
The debate on the tourism project in Albania
Stressing that Albania has become one of the growing tourist destinations, Edi Rama also commented on the criticisms of the planned tourist project in the Zvërnec area.
He said they take environmental criticism seriously, but added that there is no completed project yet.
Rama stated that the debates at this stage are more ideological in nature.
" We always welcome critics, because we are a free society. But there is a small problem: there is still no project to criticize. Because the project is still in preparation ," he said.
Allegations of ties to Jared Kushner and the Trump family
Rama also responded to claims that the project is linked to the family of US President Donald Trump.
He said that Jared Kushner's involvement has made the debate visible at the international level, but stressed that decisions should be made on the basis of technical expertise.
Rama said that the balance between environmental protection and economic development should be determined by urban planners, environmental engineers and other experts.
" When it comes to such technical details, decisions cannot be left to the momentary assessment of public opinion. But, when there is a concrete project, the public's assessment will certainly be very important ," said the Albanian Prime Minister.
