Ukraine-Palestine: The Resurgence of Two Endless Wars!

Under pressure from those who want the war to continue, Donald Trump announced that he would consider imposing new sanctions on Russia, while the EU prepares its 19th package of punitive measures. Paradoxically, there is no similar package against Israel...

A dramatic parallel between yesterday and this morning: in Ukraine, a so-called attack on a government building in Kiev was reported, while in the Middle East, an assassination attempt was recorded at a bus station in Jerusalem, where six Israelis were killed. The endless war is being fueled simultaneously on both fronts.

There is little to say about what happened in Kiev, because the first version spread by some media was refuted by the mayor Vitali Klitschko himself. In a post shared by Ukrinform, he explained that a fire had broken out in a state building in the Pechersk district, as a result of the possible crash of a drone. So, there was no direct attack on the government, because if such a thing had happened, the damage would have been much greater. The most plausible version is that the building was hit by a 9M727 Iskander missile that did not explode, but its tanks caused the fire. Such an act, if it had been deliberately intended, would have done nothing but further complicate the diplomatic process. However, media propaganda used it to dramatize the situation.

Under pressure from those who want the war to continue, Donald Trump announced that he would consider imposing new sanctions on Russia, while the EU is preparing its 19th package of punitive measures. Paradoxically, there is no similar package against Israel. This rhetorical game risks dismissing even the option of a possible meeting between Trump and Putin, previously announced but now fading amid artificial dramatizations.

This is very similar to the recent case of Ursula von der Leyen, who accused Moscow of attempting to assassinate her by sabotaging the plane's GPS system at a Bulgarian airport. The Sofia authorities immediately dismissed the accusation, explaining that it was a simple and common disruption in dense urban areas. But this did not prevent the head of the European Commission from carrying out propaganda bordering on the grotesque. After this "scenario" failed, the Kiev one comes, which in addition to complicating the diplomatic process, also serves to cover up the blunder of Von der Leyen herself, who has now disappeared from the media space.

On the other hand, the assassination in Jerusalem was real and had serious consequences. Since October 7, Israel has suffered many attacks, but none with so many victims. This act could have the effect of burying the last attempt at American mediation, at a time when Hamas had shown willingness to release all hostages, something that had previously been rejected. At the same time, the massacre serves Prime Minister Netanyahu to strengthen his hard line and silence the protesters who filled the streets demanding an end to the war.

Moreover, Netanyahu also exploited this event to postpone another court hearing against him, hiding behind the banner of national security.

The two Palestinian attackers, killed on the spot, took advantage of an obvious security deficit, but failed to understand the strategic consequences of their action. Instead of sending a message to the world about the plight of the Palestinian people, they strengthened the Israeli government's justification for expanding the war, now not only to Gaza, but also to the West Bank, as Israeli officials themselves warned in vengeful tones.

Meanwhile, according to Middle East Eye, the Israeli military is using a macabre new tactic: decommissioned armored vehicles, packed with tons of explosives, are sent by remote control into densely populated neighborhoods in Gaza and then detonated, destroying entire blocks of flats. In some cases, the vehicles scatter barrels of explosives along the streets and detonate them all at once, leveling entire neighborhoods. Residents say the explosions are so powerful that they shake cities 100 kilometers away. According to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, about 300 buildings are destroyed every day in these attacks.

If the dramatization of Kiev was a media fiction, the assassination in Jerusalem is a tragic reality. But the two events are linked, because wars feed each other. If the war in Ukraine were to end, international attention would focus on Gaza, and the pressure on Israel to stop the bloodshed would become unbearable. For this reason, it is easy to understand why these dramatized “scenarios” are kept running in parallel. / Adapted from “Pamphlet” by “Inside Over”
