Ukrainian drone operators are using an unusual method for training: the popular video game GTA V. According to reports, a drone school has turned the platform into a practical tool for training FPV (first-person view) drone pilots, simulating realistic flight conditions.
By adapting the game's controls, trainers are able to replicate the commands used on real drones, allowing trainees to practice navigation, speed, and coordination in complex urban environments. This form of training aims to develop reflexes and spatial orientation, key elements for drone operation.
Although it may seem like an unusual approach at first glance, the use of video games in this context has a practical logic. Professional flight simulators are often expensive and not always available in sufficient numbers. In this context, a game like GTA V, which offers a vast and detailed world, becomes an accessible and flexible alternative.
Experts emphasize that, although it cannot completely replace real training, this method can help build basic skills safely and at a lower cost.
