British Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned that the economy will not return to normal, even after the Strait of Hormuz reopens.

Starmer stressed on BBC Radio 4 that the country must change course and not return to the previous "status quo", which he considered failed after successive crises such as the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The status quo didn't work, so we can't repeat it. We need to follow a different direction," he said.

Asked whether the public should prepare for a rise in inflation as a result of the Iran-related oil crisis, Starmer confirmed that economic pressures are inevitable, stressing that the world is facing a complex situation, which he described as a "two-front war".

He announced that he is working to reopen the Strait of Hormuz through an international coalition, in cooperation with French President Emmanuel Macron. However, the British prime minister stressed that even after a possible solution, stability will not be restored immediately.

"Even if the strait opens, one should not create the idea that everything will return to normal. The reality is more complex," he declared, adding that the conflict in Ukraine and global developments point to an increasingly unstable world.
