The Israeli army has ordered the residents of 22 southern Lebanese villages to evacuate immediately.
People have been encouraged to move north of the Aëali River.
Israel Defense Forces spokesman Avichay Adraee said the army "does not seek to harm" civilians and was taking action against the Hezbollah militant group.
"For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately. Anyone who is near Hezbollah elements, facilities or weapons is putting their lives at risk," he added.
He said people were banned from going south, warning residents that doing so "poses a risk" to their lives.
Earlier this morning, evacuation orders were also issued for people in northern Gaza, where Israeli forces say they have been battling another Iranian-backed militant group, Hamas.
