The European Union has reacted to Donald Trump's demand to impose tariffs on China as a way to weaken its economic influence over Russia.
"Our assessment is that the successive packages of sanctions that we have put forward, which include new initiatives and further initiatives to strengthen the previous ones, are working. If that makes sense, our assessment is that these sanctions are working. The economic data shows that they are having an impact on the Russian economy and that is exactly what they are intended to do," said European Commission spokesman Olof Gill.
Regarding the possibility of using the anti-tax avoidance instrument, he said they will analyze the situation.
"We have some tools at our disposal and we analyse the situations in the game and decide if it is appropriate, if it is the right time, to use them. This is a judgement that is made in every circumstance. And if it has not been used so far, it is certainly for good reasons. It is there, it can be used when we deem it appropriate," added EC spokeswoman Paula Pinho.
