Sounds detected by a Canadian aircraft earlier this week are suspected not to be from the missing submarine. According to a preliminary analysis, the suspicions are that the sounds were generated by "ocean noise in the background", the initial analysis by the US Navy suggests.
Rear Admiral John Mauger told Sky News officers were continuing their analysis, but he said the US Coast Guard was not waiting for a full report to take action.
The Navy will continue to seek all "valid information" about the detected underwater sounds, he said.
Two days ago a Canadian military surveillance plane recorded underwater noises during a massive search in a remote part of the Atlantic Ocean for a submarine that disappeared while ferrying five people to the wreckage of the Titanic.
This statement gave a glimmer of hope for the people in the missing submarine, but now the analysis shows that it was the noise of the ocean.
