The destruction of the Nova Kahovka dam in southern Ukraine shows the brutality of the war that Russia has launched against Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said today.
"The destruction of the Kahovka Dam today puts thousands of civilians at risk and causes serious damage to the environment. It is an unacceptable action, which once again shows the brutality of Russia's war in Ukraine," Stoltenberg emphasized in a message on Twitter.
Ukraine's counteroffensive in Kherson will be much more difficult due to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam by the Russians. This is what expert Rupert Jones, a former senior officer of the British army, told Sky News.
Jones said the situation surrounding the attack remains "confused", but what is clear is that the dam has been "very significantly damaged".
“The immediate implications are around flooding in downstream areas. It is said that 16,000 residents are at risk. There are local evacuations taking place as we speak, the second immediate concern is around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant," he said.
