A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to former First Lady Jill Biden's protection team accidentally shot himself in the leg at Philadelphia International Airport on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Jill Biden was at the airport but was not present during the accident, USSS spokesman Nate Herring told People magazine.
The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. and the agent “suffered a non-life-threatening injury following an unintentional discharge of a firearm,” according to Herring. No one else was injured.
The agent received medical attention at the airport and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is in stable condition.
"The Secret Service's Office of Professional Responsibility will review the facts and circumstances of this incident," Herring added.
A spokesperson for the former First Lady declined to comment further.
Jill Biden was in New York on Wednesday, March 25, for the opening of an off-Broadway play written by her former chief of staff, former U.S. Ambassador Julissa Reynoso.
After leaving the White House, former presidents and former First Ladies receive protection from the Secret Service for the rest of their lives.
