Dramatic footage has been released from the serious incident in Modena, Italy, where a high-speed car plowed into pedestrians in the city center, causing panic and injuring several people.
Videos circulating on Italian media and social media show the moment the vehicle swerves onto the sidewalk and hits people on Via Emilia Centro. Witnesses describe scenes of chaos, with people thrown into the air and people running to get away.
After the collision, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot and, according to authorities, even pulled out a knife during the scuffle with citizens who tried to stop him.
The perpetrator has been identified as Elkoudri Salim, 31 years old, a graduate in Economics. He was born in the province of Bergamo, lived in the Modena area and was of Moroccan origin.
According to preliminary information from the investigation, the 31-year-old had previously been undergoing psychiatric treatment. Italian authorities stated that he was not under the influence of alcohol or narcotics at the time of the incident.
