
The United States of America has issued an ultimatum to Serbia to investigate the irregularities reported during the December 17 elections.
"Allegations of irregularities reported by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe [OSCE] and the observation team must be investigated and the violence against election officials, journalists and accredited observers, of which we have seen reports, is unacceptable and we will continue to "We make this clear to Serbia," said US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a press conference on December 19.
Miller said that Washington is reviewing the preliminary findings of the OSCE observation mission regarding the parliamentary, local and provincial elections.
"We are aware that [the OSCE] stated that the December 17 elections offered voters opportunities, political alternatives. But they also concluded that the elections were marred by numerous procedural deficiencies, pressure on public employees and misuse of public resources, and that these factors, along with the advantages enjoyed by the ruling party, create unfair conditions," he said. Miller.
Local and international observers have said that there were irregularities in the December 17 elections. Meanwhile, the largest opposition coalition, "Serbia against violence", has accused the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, of changing the will of the voters in Belgrade, demanding the cancellation of the elections in the Serbian capital.
Earlier on December 19, high officials of the European Union expressed their concerns about the electoral irregularities reported by local and international observation missions.
Through a joint statement to the media, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, and the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, called on Serbia to transparently examine all reports of electoral irregularities.
"With concern we come to the conclusion that the electoral process needs improvement and further reforms, since the proper functioning of Serbia's democratic institutions is the essence of the process of Serbia's accession to the EU," said the joint statement of Borrell and Varheyit.
According to the preliminary results of the Republican Electoral Commission, the election list "Aleksandar Vucic - Serbia dare not stop" won 46.71 percent, the list "Serbia against violence" won 23.58 percent.
The list "Ivica Dacic, Prime Minister of Serbia" ranked third with 6.57 percent of the votes. Then comes "Hope for Serbia" with 5.03 percent and "We - Voice of the People" with 4.69 percent.
