The head of the BIA, Aleksandar Vulin, recently sanctioned by the US, is soon expected to be dismissed from the post of Director of the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA).
According to what the Serbian opposition media " Danas " reports, the new director of the Serbian secret service will be someone from the ranks of the Serbian Progressive Party - the party of the Serbian president, Aleksandër Vucic.
His deputy will be someone from the party of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic. Since his US sanctions, Vulin has hardly appeared in public. His place, as reported by the Serbian media, can be taken by the current ambassador of Serbia to the USA, Marko Djuric.
Vulin has been close to the Russian Federation. He had come to head the BIA on December 2 last year. The US Department of the Treasury, on Tuesday, July 11, announced "non-grata" the director of the Security and Information Agency of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin.
The blacklisting of Serbian BIA chief Aleksandar Vulin, the US Treasury announced, underscores US determination to hold him accountable for involvement in corrupt deals that advance his political agendas and personal interests at the expense of peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
Justifying the decision to declare the Serbian minister "non-grata", the US Department in the press release holds Vulin responsible for his corrupt and destabilizing acts which have also facilitated Russia's malignant activities in the region.
Aleksandar Vulin, according to the US Treasury, has been implicated in international organized crime, illegal narcotics operations and abuse of public office.
