Aleksandar Vucic

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has warned that the world is heading towards a nuclear confrontation, while not sparing his messages for Kosovo, Tirana and Zagreb. He has also been furious about Vjosa Osmani's rapprochement with Trump...

For Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, World War III may have begun. After the editorial he wrote with Edi Rama about EU integration, the Serbian president has spoken again to German media, this time to the "Berliner Zeitung", where he did not spare attacks on Kosovo and Tirana.

Asked if there is a possibility of a nuclear escalation, Vucic said that many actors are currently trying to buy time while preparing for larger and more comprehensive conflicts, adding that the use of tactical nuclear weapons cannot be ruled out.

" Preventing World War III will be difficult. Maybe it has already started, we just don't officially talk about it that way yet. The fight for oil, gas, minerals, rare metals and other resources has been going on for a long time. If you look at World War I and World War II, you will notice that both started with regional conflicts. Only later did larger military and political alliances form, which eventually clashed directly ," Vučić said.

Speaking about Serbia's relations with the Donald Trump administration, he stressed that Serbia is a small country and that it is understandable that it is not in the spotlight of the US.

" I believe that Serbia is respected today in many parts of the world. At the same time, big powers rarely like it when small countries act too independently. That is precisely why I am often the subject of criticism, in Europe, in Russia, but also in the United States. A small country that makes decisions on its own and does not completely submit to others is rarely welcomed with enthusiasm by big actors ," he said.

Regarding the relationship between Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Donald Trump, Vučić said that this situation seemed "grotesque" to him.

" To be honest, all of this seemed somewhat grotesque to me. I would not follow any president, not even an American one. Personally, I think what Mrs. Osmani did is unworthy. Something like that would not be acceptable to me ," he declared.

Asked about the purchase of ballistic missiles and Croatia's reactions, Vučić said that Croatia has created a military alliance with Pristina and Tirana, to which Serbia has not yet reacted, although, according to him, the reasons for this alliance are incomprehensible.

" Serbia is a sovereign state and has the right to modernize its army to ensure security and territorial integrity. Everything we do is in accordance with international law and is not intended to harm any country in the region. On the contrary, Serbia is one of the factors of stability in the Western Balkans, which we demonstrate every day through the policy of peace, cooperation and economic integration ," Vučić stressed.

Speaking about the NATO bombings in 1999, he stated that Denmark was one of the first countries to recognize Kosovo's independence, while today he expects other countries to respect its territorial integrity in the case of Greenland.

" It is often said that Pandora's box was only opened with the Russian attack on Ukraine. I see it differently. It has been opened since the attack on Serbia. When the West acted militarily then, it was about democracy and human rights. When other states act in a similar way today, this is called a violation of international law ," he said.

He added that the great powers "should at least honestly admit that they no longer want the existing United Nations order," emphasizing that a clash for a new international order is currently taking place. / Adapted from "Danas"
