Students, citizens and activists from across Serbia march towards Slavija in what is expected to be one of the largest protests against the Serbian president.
Belgrade is experiencing this Saturday one of the largest civic and student mobilizations in recent years, as thousands of protesters from all over Serbia are gathering in the center of the capital for the massive protest in Slavija Square, which is seen as the next wave of pressure on President Aleksandar Vučić.
Since noon, long columns of students and citizens have marched from several points in Belgrade towards Slavija, while many others have arrived in organized groups from various cities in the country.
According to Serbian media, protesters have started from Republic Square, the Faculty of Law, Autokomanda and Zemun, creating rivers of people on the streets of the capital. Traffic has been paralyzed on several main axes, while the Gazela bridge and the overpass near Mostar have been closed due to large crowds.

In Slavija, the number of participants is growing by the minute and organizers expect the protest to reach gigantic proportions during the evening.
This protest is considered a continuation of the wave of student and citizen mobilizations that have been challenging Vučić's rule for months, in a tense political and social climate in Serbia.
Meanwhile, near the Pionir Park, near the Serbian Presidency, police have set up strong security cordons to separate the president's supporters from protesters marching towards the center. Minor verbal and physical incidents have also been recorded in the area, while dozens of special forces vehicles have been deployed near state institutions.
Serbian authorities also took the unusual step of suspending rail traffic across the country after an anonymous bomb threat on trains and railway depots. The decision has prompted strong reactions from the opposition and civil society organizations, who see it as an attempt to prevent participation in the protest.

MEP Andreas Schieder also reacted to the developments in Serbia, stating that Vučić's government "is showing fear of its own citizens."
Political analysts in Belgrade estimate that today's protest could mark an important moment for the opposition and the student movement, while pressure on Vučić is increasing significantly.
Despite tensions and a heavy police presence, the atmosphere in most protest areas is reported to be peaceful, while new crowds continue to arrive in central Belgrade.
