Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said that a "trend of rapprochement" is being observed between Tehran and Washington in talks aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
In an interview with Iranian state television IRIB, he said that after several weeks of bilateral negotiations, the parties have entered the phase of finalizing a memorandum of understanding.
" After several weeks of bilateral negotiations, we are seeing a trend of rapprochement ," Baghai declared.
According to him, Iran initially aims to draft a memorandum of understanding that will consist of 14 points and will serve as the basis for ending the conflict in the region.
" We are currently in the finalization phase of these memoranda of understanding ," he added.
The Iranian official also commented on the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic sea routes for global oil trade. He stressed that any mechanism related to this maritime corridor should be agreed upon only between Iran, Oman and the countries bordering it.
According to Baghai, the US "has no connection" to this process.
