Xi threatened him about Taiwan, Trump flattered him at the state banquet: Grand
Donald Trump in China

President Donald Trump has praised the close and historic relationship between the United States and China, projecting stability and closeness in relations between the two countries after a day of important talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During a brief speech at a state banquet on Thursday, Trump called the day's discussions "incredibly positive and productive" and thanked his counterpart for what he described as a "grand welcoming ceremony."

The US president drew historical comparisons between the two countries, calling the US-China relationship “one of the most consequential relationships in world history.” He cited Samuel Shaw’s trade with China 250 years ago, Benjamin Franklin’s references to Confucius in his newspaper, and President Theodore Roosevelt’s efforts to help found the university where Xi Jinping studied.

"Just as many Chinese people today love basketball and blue jeans, there are more Chinese restaurants in America today than the five largest fast food chains in the United States combined," Trump said, calling it "a pretty big statement."

Trump added that the two countries "have a lot in common," citing the values of "hard work," "courage," and "achievement."

"The world is a special place when we are both united and together," he declared.

The US president also extended an official invitation to Xi Jinping and his wife, Ms. Peng, to visit Washington and the White House on September 24.

Chinese President Xi Jinping warned President Trump during a bilateral meeting in Beijing that the United States and China could "enter into conflict" if the Taiwan issue is handled poorly, state media reported.

The Chinese leader's remarks, reported by the official Xinhua news agency, set the stage for what Trump described as perhaps "the greatest summit ever" after a lavish reception at Beijing's Great Hall of the People. Behind closed doors, Xi said negotiations between the economic and trade teams on Wednesday had achieved an "overall balanced and positive outcome," according to a statement from China's state-run Xinhua news agency.

Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the “situation in the Middle East” during their high-stakes talks in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese state media reported. The leaders “exchanged views on major international and regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East,” the state-run Xinhua news agency said. Trump and Xi also spoke about the war in Ukraine, the agency said.
