Zelensky speaks after virtual meeting with Trump: I told them that Putin is
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at a joint press conference with Friedrich Merz in Berlin, thanked the German Chancellor for hosting him for today's meeting and for Germany's broader contribution to Ukraine's security.

Zelensky said that all the leaders who met today wanted peace in Ukraine, peace in Europe. He stressed that Russia should not impose preconditions that hinder Ukraine's future prospects.

"They agreed on a set of principles ahead of Donald Trump's talks with Vladimir Putin on Friday. What concerns Ukraine should be discussed with Ukraine. Trump supports a ceasefire and security guarantees for Ukraine, and Russia should not have the right to veto Ukraine's NATO perspective ," he said.

Zelensky further emphasized that if Putin does not accept an agreement after the meeting with Trump, then a major mobilization is needed, filled with sanctions against Russia.

" There must be joint pressure on Russia, there must be sanctions, and there must be a message that if Russia does not accept a ceasefire in Alaska, this principle must work ," Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader went on to say that he told Trump and European leaders that Putin is bluffing and trying to advance along the entire front.

"Putin is also bluffing by saying he doesn't care about sanctions and that they aren't working. In reality, sanctions are very effective and are hurting the Russian military economy ," he added.

Regarding the Trump-Putin meeting, he added that the focus was on the ceasefire and that after the Trump-Putin meeting, results can be talked about.

"We hope that the central topic will be a ceasefire. The President of the United States said this several times. He proposed to me that after the meeting in Alaska, we should have contact and discuss all the results, if they are achieved, and determine the next steps ," Zelensky said.

Asked at a press conference about the potential for land concessions in Donbas, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his position remains unchanged.

"Any issue related to the territorial integrity of Ukraine cannot be discussed like this, without looking at our constitution and the will of our people. As for our principles, as for our territorial integrity, ultimately, it will be decided at the level of leaders. Without Ukraine (at the table), it is impossible to achieve. My position is not changing," Zelensky said at a press conference today.

He closed his remarks by saying he would not call Friday's Putin-Trump meeting a "historic moment" without first seeing an outcome.
