Zelensky proposes Yulia Svirydenko as Ukraine's new prime minister!

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that he has asked First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svirydenko to take on the role of the country's prime minister, in a move aimed at bringing about a profound transformation in the executive branch of government.

During a meeting, Zelensky and Svirydenko discussed concrete measures to strengthen Ukraine's economic potential, expand support programs for citizens, and improve domestic weapons production, at a time when the country faces the ongoing challenges of war.

In a post on the X platform, Zelensky wrote: “We discussed specific measures to strengthen Ukraine’s economic potential, expand support programs for Ukrainians, and improve domestic arms production. I proposed that Yulia Svirydenko head the government and significantly renew its work.

He stressed that this initiative is part of a broader plan to transform the executive branch of government, with the aim of increasing efficiency and addressing current challenges. Svirydenko, 39, with a strong background as an economist, has served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade since November 2021.

She played a key role in the negotiations for the minerals agreement with the United States and was involved in the implementation of agreements with European and American partners reached during the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

Zelensky's proposal to appoint Svirydenko as prime minister is expected to be approved by the Ukrainian parliament, which has shown broad support for the president since the start of the war. If confirmed, this would be the biggest political change in Ukraine since the conflict with Russia began in February 2022.
